Safety Alert for Associations: Square D Electrical Panel Recall

Important Safety Notice for HOA & COA Boards

Schneider Electric has issued a safety recall for certain Square D QO Plug-On Neutral Load Centers (Electrical Panels) manufactured between: February 1, 2020 – January 12, 2022 A potential loose neutral screw connection inside the panel may cause overheating, which can create: fire hazards, risk of property damage, and risk of personal injury. This issue may affect condominium units, townhomes, and HOA/COA properties.

Why This Matters for Associations:

Electrical panels are critical infrastructure components within residential buildings. In many condominium and townhome communities, panels may be located inside individual units but still create exposure for the association if a fire originates from a defective panel. Failure to address recall notices can result in:

  • Increased property damage exposure
  • Potential bodily injury claims
  • Master policy insurance claims
  • Special assessments for uninsured losses
  • Liability concerns for the Board Proactive communication and inspection can significantly reduce risk and demonstrate proper board governance.

How This Impacts Associations:

Electrical panels are common elements in many condominium buildings and townhome communities. Boards should review this notice with:

  • Property management
  • Electrical contractors
  • Risk management advisors
  • Insurance professionals

What HOA & COA Boards Should Do:

  • Determine whether affected panels were installed in the community.
  • Notify property management and maintenance teams immediately.
  • Inform unit owners of the recall notice.
  • Arrange for inspection if applicable.
